Well, it arrived today, now I know it is really happening! Exciting and scary at the same time!
Another Friday off today and we went to the market this morning for our normal Saturday shop, as I’m planning to join the S2F long run group again tomorrow. Hopefully I won’t cause Clarkey grief like I did last week!
After that we drove out to ActiveFeet in Prahan as I wanted them to check out the Brooks Trance shoes I am planning to run in for the marathon. They are great shoes, but for some reason I get some pain in my left forefoot in them on long runs. I used to get the same pain sometimes in the Kayanos too. I wanted them to check the shoe and the insole, to make sure they were structurally sound, and advise me if a replacement insole may help. They checked the shoes out, including having me run in them on the tready, and reckoned they are okay and that a replacement insole wouldn’t help. I have done the last two long runs in them, and other than the bit of forefoot pain they have been great, not a sign of a blister or any other problem, so I think they are the marathon shoes. The only other advice was a visit to the pod for a chat about the pain I’m getting – I might do that next week.
After ActiveFeet we drove into Carlton for lunch, and enjoyed a lovely seafood risotto at University Cafe in Lygon Street. Then the obligatory stop at Readings and Borders, and I fear to say that I added to my running library, purchasing a book called “The Spirit Of The Marathon – What To Expect In Your First Marathon And How To Run Them For The Rest Of Your Life”. It is essentially a collection of runner’s marathon stories, hopefully it will inspire me!
Stopped at Dan Murphy’s on the way home and purchased a half dozen bottles of wine, including a couple of bargain reds and a couple of nicer reds.
Headed out on the bike for an easy 25km just to get the blood pumping and keep the legs moving, nothing too hard before tomorrow.
After tea I had to take Kate out to a friends place and I stopped off at Broadmeadows Shopping Centre and ended up hammering the credit card again, buying a new Skins top (short sleeved) and a DVD box set of Till Death Us Do Part. Not sure if anyone else remembers this, but it was one of my favourite BBC comedies – and bigoted old Alf Garnett is a West Ham supporter too, so he can’t be all bad
So, all in all a great day, albeit an expensive one.
