Last night I ended up filling in for Kate’s sandball (volleyball on a sand court, if anyone was wondering) team. When I actually walked onto the court I wondered if it was the brightest thing to be doing, with a sore knee. I’d taken my brace with me, so I put it on and seem to have gotten through the game without making it any worse. We got beaten by the way, and I played like a complete prat.
Tonight after work I decided to go for a ride as the evening was beautiful. I ended up riding just over 20.5km, with the last 6km or so in the dark. I can’t believe how quickly it gets dark now – bring on daylight savings I say!
I am going to join Andrew and Aaron on the 100 Push-ups program which is a guided program that claims it will be able to get you to the stage where you can do 100 consecutive push-ups in 6 weeks. Now, my upper body strength is pretty poor at the moment, and I have no confidence that I will be able to get to 100 ever, let alone in 6 weeks – but it can’t hurt to try can it (well maybe a little)!
The first thing to you have to do, is to do as many “proper form” push-ups as you can. This number determines your starting point in the program. I did that last night and only managed 13. The program involves doing a set of push-up repeats three days a week, with a day in between, so I’m aiming for Monday, Wednesday and Friday. With an initial “max” number of 13, the Day 1 program calls for 5 sets of push-ups 10/10/8/6/max, where the “max” set at the end must be at least 7, with 60 seconds rest between sets.
I managed tonight’s okay, with the last “max” number being 11. Jelly arms would be a good description afterwards.
Check out the program yourself by clicking on the image below!

Good luck with the push ups program!
Let me know if you’d like to be added to the “Challenge” page:

PS Jelly arms seems to be a popular term at the moment

Looks interesting – when I was training with Anja, she used to make me do pushups, and I was pathetic, LOL. I might give it a shot too and see what happens. Anything that improves my upper body strength can only be useful.

Good stuff on the pushup challenge.
I agree with you about the daylight savings. Not much fun when its dark when you leave home for work and when you get back.

I’ve created a little spreadsheet and got it all set up so that I can record my progress on the 100 push up challenge.
I’m going to print the spreadsheet out and keep it with me at all times so that if I get 15 minutes I can do them anywhere (well anywhere within reason of course!!)
I just need to pull my finger out and get started

Good luck on the push ups. Whilst I’m not interested in joining the the çhallenge’, I have done a very similar program and found it uite achieveable, whilst my day one was higher, I achieved 100 in the just before the 4th week.
Push ups are a great exercise, you use so many muscle groups and a few crunches or planks are a great way to discover that push ups DO use core muscles…
Ohhh, I haven’t been reading many blogs lately.
