A fairly reasonable day at work today – got a couple of things done for a change!
After work I went for a 5km loop around the local streets with Alyssa, average pace of 5:04 min/km. I wore my new Saucony Omni 7’s for the first time. A nice pair of shoes, but after wearing the new Saucony Hurricane 10’s last week for the first time, I think the extra few dollars for the Hurricane’s are worth it.
Like most of you Run Melbourne runner’s probably did, I bought the Age newspaper today (don’t normally) for the results lift-out, and found it to be a real disappointment. I expected lots of nice race photos, but there were only very few, and most of them were pretty small.
Now to answer some of your questions from yesterdays post. To answer Sharon’s and Lee’s question, no I haven’t had my knee properly checked out recently, so I don’t really know what is wrong with it. I did get it checked about a year ago by the local physio and then he told me nothing seriously wrong and suggested I change shoes (which I did). To answer Sara, yes it has been iced almost out of existence the last couple of weeks!
I was amused to read John’s comment tonight in his blog about “secretly checking himself out in the mirror, looking for muscles” because I actually got caught doing that tonight by my darling wife as I was changing for my run. The lame comment about “thinking there was a little more definition in the tummy, maybe it’s the push-up challenge” didn’t really ease the embarrassment.
To answer Lee’s question, no it is not too late to start the 100 Pushups Challenge – you can start whenever you like – go for it – it can’t hurt and it is a bit of fun!

Thanks for the explanation re: your knee.
Well one small advantages of being single — if and when I start to develop any signs of muscle I can be as vain as I like checking my calf definition in my mirror at home with nobody to notice!

Yeah, I was a bit bummed by the liftout, they didn’t even list the winners for each event and was expecting heaps more pictures.
I may start that push up challenge, next week when I start my leave and have more time.

LOL! I remember finding a little muscle on my shoulders after my training sessions with Anja, and I kept looking at it. It was really only obvious when I was brushing my teeth.
I too get a bit annoyed at the lack of decent media coverage of running as a sport. It’s something so accessible to everyone, and needn’t be too expensive.

God, I blatantly check out my muscles and make everyone around me feel them (no matter how much they protest). That’s half the fun of it

I’m with you in thinking it was a con to boost circulation of that paper! You think they’d make an effort to impress all the extra readers but no.
Heh…I’ve been busted by the wife as well.

It can hurt!

If I’d have seen the 100 push ups thing earlier I might have given it a whirl. Good luck with it! I’ll keep a tab on your blog to see how you go

I know what you mean about the Hurricanes. I try not to compare my Trigons to my Hurricanes, but every time I put on the Hurricanes, they just feel so much more comfy than all the others.

[...] I redid day 2 of week 01 of the 100 pushup challenge this evening. The program calls for 12, 12, 10, 10 and max (min10). I did 12, 12, 10, 10 and 20 for my max which I was really happy with. A search for muscles victory dance may have been performed but I did not get busted by my wife. [...]

Just so long as I’m not the only one who takes a peek looking for muscles. An ab or two wouldn’t go astray either.
I’m looking at getting some Brooks Adrenalines. Did a walk test at Athlete’s Foot and they turned out to be the most comfortable. Also looked at some Nike Pegasus’s but they are too narrow. I think I’ll go check out the Saucony’s.
