Well, I enjoyed my first game of footy for the year last night. Geelong did not look all that flash, but they accounted for Richmond rather easily none the less. Now I’m changing to “prima donna” mode, and I have to say I couldn’t get over the amount of junk food and beer that was being consumed by the footy-going public last night! Not a healthy choice in sight as far as food goes, but the chips, pies, donuts etc. were being purchased and shovelled down by the box load. And the beer, in those stupid plastic cups, splishing and splashing everywhere as drunken spectators tried to carry them, 4-6 at a time in weak little cardboard containers, back to their seats. Fortunately we didn’t have any bad offenders in our row, but the number of people I saw getting beer (and other drinks, but mainly beer) spilt on them was quite large. And $5.80 a cup for beer, $4.20 for a bottle of coke – rip-off!
Now it might just be me, but when you are putting on a sporting event, what about something healthy to eat? I enjoyed the fruit we’d taken with us – but why not a few healthy choices?
Went into the gym for a swim and breakfast this morning. I was a bit worried about how my swimming fitness would be because I didn’t swim at all last month, but it was a good swim. I did 80 laps (or 2km) of the pool in just over 50 minutes.
After lunch we took the dog for a walk, but it was a bit short-lived due to rain.
A bit later I went for a slow (5:53 min/km) 5km loop with Alyssa. Alyssa hadn’t run for a few weeks, and got a couple of side-stitches, so there were a few walk breaks included in that pace calculation.
Looking forward to Adrienne’s minestrone soup for tea … one of my favourites … then a lazy night in front of the TV!

It is odd that at many sporting events the only food served is “fast” food of the junk / convenience nature !!!

Foyle’s War on channel 2 perhaps?
Well it will be for me, I can barely believe I am only 34 sometimes
Whenever I have been to the cricket I have always bought an esky with lots of yummy and healthy treats to get me though the day.

We went to Telstra Dome today and saw a food place called Healthier Choices (or something like that) and were cracking up cos it’s like it doesn’t need to be much healthier to be better than normal footy food. Had a look and it was actually pretty good! then went and got chips cos all the healthy food was cold (salads, rolls etc.
I’m with you on the beer. I never drink at the footy mainly because of the spillage risk, oh and the prices.

I love minestrone soup, and I think the best would be home made. Any chance of a recipe?

I have season tickets for Toronto FC. Just recently (I think the All Star game with WHU was the first game) they’ve stopped sending the beer guy into our section. Now if you want a beer you have to go to the concession area. I don’t mind but the ones that caused the problem in the first place grumble as they climb the steps.
As for footy food – quite a selection “reflecting Toronto’s ethnic diversity” (they say whenever they pat themselves on the back) but not a healthy thing for sale. Actually – the only healthy thing is water but I’m not going to pay $3 for that!

A disgrace, is the easiest was to describe it! People keep buying it, so they keep serving it up! But of course we must all be very proud to now that Australia is one of the fattest countries in the world, so are we surprised?
