Back in my box …

By ajh

Thanks for some great comments on yesterdays post … I’ll get back into my box now. Seriously though, TA, you are right – the music industry is very tough these days, I wouldn’t want to be trying to make it as a young musician. I will say though that I am still a traditionalist in that I prefer to go out and buy a CD, but I have also purchased some music on iTunes. The internet has made it easy for young musicians to publish their music, but it’s not so easy to make any money out of it. You called me a prog child, and I did like a lot of that music, but my tastes are really quite diverse, I love a lot of punk too, and some heavy metal, and lots of other stuff.

And, TA, I did check out that Ben Folds song, and a couple of others – not really me I’m afraid. Any recordings of your band?

Aischai, yes you did make me feel old by saying it was the music your parents listened to!

Em, I do like Nick Cave and The Whitlams, in fact I came within a squeak of buying their new album on the weekend, and think I probably will next time I see it.

Mizfit – a rapper ? How about proving it with that video camera of yours :-)

Here are two of my favourite, more recent female artists. Could they be any more different?

Quintessential Aussie “rock chick” – Leanne Kingwell

The voice of an angel – Katie Melua

And what about Melbourne’s all-girl, punk band, The Spazzy’s – always kick up a gear when I’m on a run and one of their songs comes on the iPod.

A short, 5km run with Alyssa tonight, we started off reasonably quickly, running the first 3km under 5 minute pace, but Alyssa go a stitch again so we had a couple of walk breaks on the home stretch, overall average pace 5:27 min/km.

Haha, yeah you say Katie Melua, I say Ben Folds… I can see our tastes are slightly divergent! I can’t stand the woman, although I can hear how talented a singer she is, she just makes me want to punch her for some reason. I’m mostly a punk girl myself, although more 80s and 90s than oldschool ‘77 style. If you give me your email address I can send you a few mp3s if you’re genuinely interested in hearing my band?? the production isn’t that good – we’re not professionals!

Nick Cave is awesome – claim to fame, my brother-in-law used to be his tour manager!

I think I must put my head in the sand when it comes to music nowadays.

I love all the old stuff, especially the Oz 70’s and 80’s stuff. I too also have very different taste in music and can listen to the Everley Brothers followed by someone like Fat Boy Slim!!

My latest love has to be Kings of Leon. I’ve heard there’s a new song been released so must go and google it!
