Alyssa and I went out for a run before breakfast this morning. It was her first run ever over 6km – we need to be increasing the distances to be prepared for the 10km at Melbourne Marathon in October. We also want to do a few early morning runs (ie same time of day as the actual race will be) as we’ve always run in the late afternoon / evening. In order to get her to easily run the slightly longer distance we decided to do a “Galloway” run/walk, running 900m of each 1km and walking the last 100m. Anyway she comfortably did 8.5km, with an overall 5:52 min/km pace, including the walk breaks. It won’t be long and I’ll have her doing 10km!
At home it was then time for a shower and breakfast, and a lazy morning watching the men’s marathon. I am going to be glad when the Olympics are over to be honest. The Channel 7 coverage is really annoying me, to the point it is stressing me out. The marathon is on, and I want to watch it, but they are showing re-runs of the relays? WTF! It really has been a disgrace.
After a spot of lunch it was time to sprawl in front of the TV again to watch the Geelong vs Nth Melbourne game. I think I’m turning into a grumpy old man, because, despite the fact that my team was winning, I was getting really annoyed with the umpiring – at half time I’d had enough, so I went out for a bike ride. Just over 20km, in about 50 minutes. I found this new little street in my neighbourhood that is the steepest little hill I’ve seen for a while. I rode down it on my way out, then near the end of the ride rode up it. It is only short, but a real challenge to get up, I think I’ll build it into my neighbourhood loops.
I think I am becoming addicted to this stuff. If you haven’t tried it, and like lemon teas you really should try it. The ginger makes it a really flavoursome and warming drink.
Now to answer some of your questions and comments on yesterdays post.
Mizfit – I’m not sure that a guest food day post from me would be all that interesting, but I will think about it, and maybe submit something soon.
Sassydrcil – John Bingham does have a website, it is http://www.johnbingham.com/
AndrewE – I am 179cm (or just under 5′ 11″ in the old lingo).

Yum, I’ll give that a go I LOVE ginger. I am hooked on Twinings Chai tea at the moment, it’s black tea with cinnamon and ginger.

Congrats to coach & Alyssa, 10k is around the corner! Slow & steady is the key for her long term running!
Hmmmm, yes the marathon was going, the ONLY event on the OG Timetable, but yes Channel 7 show re-runs of events from the previous day……grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Love the tea! A few years ago I read that ginger has anti-inflam qualities and this was the tea I tried and I enjoyed. So my hot drinks are long black (prob 4 a week), green tea with mint & the lemon with ginger.
