One way to get back out running …

By ajh

What would be the best way to force myself to get back out running? Maybe to bust my bike, so I have to run? Well, that’s what I did today. I headed out straight after lunch, as the weather looked like it was changing, and about to get really crappy. I wasn’t sure how long before the rain would come, so decided to stay local, and just did some laps of my normal 6km running loop, with a small (just over 1km) added loop that adds in a killer little hill. I was close to completing my 4th lap, when I heard a nasty little ping and realised I’d broken a spoke in my back wheel. I didn’t hit anything so it must just have been a weak one, or general wear and tear. I tucked it in behind another spoke and rode slowly home – fortunately I was only about 1km away. Anyway, it was a tough, hilly, windy, 29km ride.

So, the bike is out of action until I can get it into the local bike shop to be fixed. Therefore if I want some outside cardio – it’s run, run or run.

We moved into the 21st century today and bought a microwave. We’ve never owned one before. The kids have been bugging us for a while to get one. Never been a big fan myself, but I guess they have their uses.

I got rid of my microwave about a year and a half ago. It seems that all I ever did was nuke pizza, anyway. :)
Although – I am thinking that maybe I need one now. I’ll wait a bit and see how things go.

bummer about the bike. 21st century? more like the 20th!!!

See, it’s destiny that you run!

At least spring is on its way – its lighter outside and more fun to go runnnig.

The only thing I use the microwave for is making poppadoms… A bit of wasted space really, I hope you get more use out of yours than I do :D

I use mine to heat up milk for my kids’ weekbix, that’s it.

Pappadums for sure! also great for popcorn and heat packs!

Yep, pop corn, heat packs and re-heating!

I think it is the weather that is making running so unappealing. I didn’t have a problem in sunny Perth but now I am back in Melbourne and it feels so gloomy. Bring on Spring :)

    microwave popcorn
reheating tepid drinks, pizza, and leftovers

    ah, yep. That’s about it!

but seriously, there is no other way to heat up last night’s pasta without burning the crap out of a saucepan.

Healthy steamed vegetables in minutes Andrew! What a bonus. We do ours in a fish steamer, as there’s enough space to do them together, unless TB is going crazy and feeding me 11 different vegetables at once.

Good luck with the running while the bike is getting fixed.

I only use mine for reheating leftovers and also heating up my 90 second rice (best food invention!!). Also for my my frozen steamed vegie bags.

    I think I’ve had a microwave since 1985

    How did you re-heat takeaway?

Very handy for cooking rice too and that 90 second stuff JK mentioned, great for a quick hot chocolate too and microwave popcorn and cooking the spuds to make mash and steaming veggies.

Not to mention the clock, it is the first thing I see when I stumble blindly into the kitchen every morning.

Delia Smith (prudish british celeb chef) says that microwaves take the soul out of food (sassy snorts here). Bugger that. I like it for leftovers, packet rice and some other things.

  15. Audrey Says:

Wow! I love my microwave, but lately I’ve been much more into my slow cooker. Can put dinner on and set it for 8 hours and come home to a lovely cooked meal.

Sorry about your bike, maybe if running is the only option, you’ll get a bit of mojo back.
