The juggernaut rolls on …

By ajh

Well, the Geelong juggernaut rolls on, with another great win in todays Qualifying Final, demolishing St. Kilda 119 to 61. Such a pity to see a terrible knee injury to Brent Prismall that they are saying may see him miss most of next season. A few other injuries too, so it is lucky that this win gives them a path straight into the Preliminary Final, so a week off next week to rest and recover.

That is something like 41 wins out of the last 43 games for the mighty Cats, something to celebrate already, hopefully they can win two more games and take the Premiership again!

Happy Father’s Day to all the dad’s out there! Mine was celebrated quietly, with my mum and dad coming for lunch. I got two nice presents, the 2XU bike shorts I mentioned yesterday, and the DVD complete set of the wonderful British police drama, Prime Suspect starring Helen Mirren. This is, IMHO, one of the best, if not the best, of the British police dramas. Now all I need is to find the 26 hours I’ll need to watch all 7 movie length episodes!

I started the day off at 7:30am with a run with Alyssa, and I’m stoked to report that we made the full 10km distance for the first time. We still used our run 900m, walk 100m technique for all but the last kilometre, but I think finally completing the 10km distance will be a big mental barrier overcome for Alyssa, and we still have over a month of preparation time before Melbourne Marathon day (where we are running the 10km). It was a great morning and a great run, average pace including the walk breaks was 5:44 min/km. I also did a short (25 minute) workout tonight, concentrating on mainly core exercises.

Oh I see Father’s Day is on a different day down under. In the UK it is usually near to 17 June. Perhaps in the US it is on yet another day again.

No doubt Hallmark has more say in the world wide staggering of the various “Father’s Day” and “Mother’s Day” celebrations than anyone else !!!

Medicine, Class of 2002. 3 years at the uni, then 3 years at the Royal Melbourne in clinical training. Am an advanced trainee in Geriatrics now, am Senior Medical Registrar at the Northern Hospital but will be working at the Austin Hospital in addition to the Northern. Many hours and whispered conversations in the Baillieu (nicer and airier than the Brownless). What was your science degree and what is the job that you sometimes claim sucks the life out of you?

Now I know who to come to if I need looking after in my old age!

Maths & Computer Science – now I’m an IT manager for a global manufacturing company.

gahhhh – both my football (soccer) teams lost yesterday: TFC to Chivas USA, and team Canada lost to Honduras in World Cup qualifying.

I am getting used to running (still not liking it!) and have gone 6 of the past 7 days. Am up to a mile and 3/4 now – every step is a killer. Hopefully, the joy of running will kick in soon!

Much as I think Geelong are an incredible team who deserve all they success they get, I can’t help feeling sorry for all the other teams.

It must be like Craig Mottram showing up for a local 5k fun-run. You know no matter how fast you run he just needs to shift gears and leave everyone in his dust.

I very much doubt you will need any help in old age (except possibly some osteoarthritis from all the running but offset by being nice and trim).
