He’s back …

By ajh

Well, Lance Armstrong has confirmed his return to professional cycling next year on his Livestrong web site. He is doing it in order to raise awareness of the global cancer burden and will launch an international cancer strategy later this month. This year alone, nearly eight million people will die of cancer worldwide. Lance Armstrong is an inspiration to so many people, and his Livestrong (Lance Armstrong Foundation) is an inspiration and help to so many touched by cancer. If your family has been touched by cancer (or even if it hasn’t), and you have never visited the Livestrong website and read, and listened, to the Lance Armstrong Foundation manifesto – go and do it now – it will inspire you and bring a tear to your eye (or it did me).

Anyway, it will be great if Lance can win TdF number eight, but if the Livestrong cancer strategy is successful in any way this is so much more important, isn’t it!

After the late teleconference last night I was yawning at my desk this afternoon so decided to knock off a little early and go for a longer ride than I can usually fit in before dark on a weeknight. I ended up doing just under 32km at a fairly decent average speed of 26.7 km/hr. The wind was blowing in the right direction down my favourite hill, and I managed to clock a maximum speed of 78.21 km/hr (48.6 miles/hr for you non metric folks) – what a buzz this road bike is!

Edit: Sara raises an extremely interesting point on her response to yesterdays post. If Lance is back in 2009, do I support Cadel or Lance ? I suppose a dead-heat for 1st place might be too much to ask for. I know it might be un-Australian (but then again I am a pom), but I think I’d have to say that I’d be rooting for win number 8 for Lance – that would be the stuff of legends after all.

Yes, AJ, am fond of some herbal tea. I should say that 5 coffees is very atypical for me. Usually I have 2 a day. That was why I felt crappy. I fixed the blog roll up thanks for pointing it out.
I am very proud to say that I ran 50 minutes straight today. Yessssssss. :)

This is the post where MizFit realizes she needs to separate LANCE THE MAN from LANCE THE ATHLETE & be excited.

I was not overly surprised to read the news of his comeback today, I guess such a fierce competitor would find it very difficult to retire.

I just hope he is not jumping the shark with this one.

    Re: The Scarlett comment.

Only my family, and you guys, know me as Katherine, and you guys know me as Katherine because that’s what I have to write on my registration forms when I run! Otherwise everyone knows me as Scarlett, because it’s my pen name as a writer and it’s something I’ve grown into. I’ll actually be formally altering my name so that my first name is Scarlett, soon. :) I hope that brings some clarity to you!

I hope they don’t have speed cameras on that hill!

    And go Lance go!
