A rotten run, but a great ride …

By ajh

I’d organised a run with Alyssa this morning, we were heading out at 7:30am, with a 10km the plan. She was off school early last week with a virus, but she and her mum thought she was fully recovered. She hadn’t run for a week though, so I wasn’t sure how we’d go. We decided to do our 6km loop, then add our 4km loop as well if she felt up to it. Obviously she wasn’t completely over her virus, and started to feel unwell at about the 4km mark, so we walked a lot of the last 2km, finishing the 6km in an average 6:23 min/km pace. I was going to continue the run after I dropped her back home, but decided on a ride instead. I rode from home (Greenvale) down to Strathmore and back, just over 32km. Again, an easy ride out, and a struggle into a strong headwind all the way home. I met up with another cyclist and rode about 10km with him, having a nice chat, he was on his way home and had ridden to Mordialloc – he had about 94km on the odometer – so made me feel lazy!

Another nice drive and lunch out today and I’ve just finished ironing all my shirts – aren’t I a good boy!

Mark said in yesterdays comment I should “fess up” on the DVD. It was a Katie Melua DVD, called Concert Under The Sea. She did a concert at the foot of one of the shafts of a Norwegian oil rig, 330m under the sea. An interesting story, and a great little live performance. To answer the obvious “why” question, the idea was conceived by the amateur musician manager of the rig, to celebrate the rigs 10th anniversary.

Run/walking a 6km and then biking 32km is definitely not lazy! You seem to get a lot of wind where you live…
