A sub-5 10km

By ajh

Even less people at work today, two sickies did return, but three others were away on business travel!

I spent a good part of the day looking out the window at the delightful weather, just waiting for it to be time to go home and go for a run. Then, just as that time arrived, the weather turned. As I was driving home the rain started. Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!

As it was , when I got home it was only raining lightly, and by the time I got my gear on it had practically stopped. My goal for tonight was a 10km at sub 5-minute pace. Happy to report that mission was accomplished with 10.2km @ 4:55 min/km. There was a couple of calf-stretch breaks in there, but I don’t feel bad about that, they were feeling so tight I thought the right one was going to pop.

Thanks for all your comments yesterday. To answer a few points, I do use music sometimes and that does sometimes help. I have thought about a circuit class too – I used to do Bodypump, but the times of these just don’t work for me at the moment. I have been meaning to do a pilates class too, in fact it is on my 2008 Goals, but maybe if all the girls are going to laugh at me, I might have to re-think.

To answer MizFit, yes I am keeping well. The dreaded lurgy has been through the family twice recently, and every second person at work seems to have had it, but I seem to have escaped. Touch wood **touches head with finger** this will continue. I’m putting it down to all those little endorphins running around my body!

There are loads of boys in our Pilates class and nobody laughs at them! I do think as cardio nutters it is very important for us to do some kind of balance/strengethening/core work, whether it’s Pilates, Yoga, T’ai Chi or whatever. You’ll be good at some Pilates stuff very quickly as a swimmer too, surely? Incentive!

As I go to an all female gym, we don’t have any boys in our classes at all (sigh).

If you don’t want to go and do a class, you could always buy a DVD and do it at home. I know there are quite a few good ones on the market.

Nice run! I suffer from tight calves sometimes as well.

The pilates method was invented by Joseph Pilates so I think its OK for blokes to do.

We won’t laugh, was only joking! :)
Seriously, with all the girly goss in there, you will get a very unique insight into the female mind. It comes into good use when dealing with women-folk!
