Good job Hawks!

By ajh

We spent the day down in Geelong today, at my parent’s place, to celebrate my brother’s birthday and to watch the AFL Grand Final.

A disappointing end to a stellar season by my team (Geelong), going down to a Hawthorn team that was just far too good, far too tough and far too fast. Geelong squandered a lot of opportunities early in the game and never really recovered. I want to say though, I’m very proud of another great season, 21 wins out of 22 home and away games and making the Grand Final is a good result in anyones books, especially on the back of last years Grand Final win.

Two things annoyed me more than the actual result today. The first was my dad’s insistence at turning down the TV commentary and listening to the radio commentary. Now normally I don’t object to this, but today for some reason (maybe it is the fact that mum and dad have digital TV) the radio commentary was a second or so ahead of the TV footage, so we were hearing about things about a second before we saw them on the TV. It was really quite disconcerting! Anyway, the groundswell of opinion meant this only lasted for the first quarter of the game.

The second was the negative comments that were emanating from certain family members during the last part of the game (you know “Geelong are hopeless”, “They’re gone now … what the hell are they doing” and all that sort of thing). It really made it worse.

I’ve also eaten far too much today which I always feel bad about afterwards. Other than a “frog in a pond”, some birthday cake and a few glasses of red, most of it was reasonably healthy (BBQ chicken and salad, heaps of fruit off a fruit platter) – but just far too much. I just stepped on the scales a few minutes ago, and even though I was 0.5kg under “goal weight” at this mornings weigh in, I’m nearly 3kg heavier now!

No exercise today – but after just checking my training journal it is my first rest day in over three weeks so I probably deserve it.

The Bill beckons – and maybe another glass of red – I scavenged the remainder of the bottle from lunch :-)

“The Bill” beckons? I am constantly amazed by how many TV programmes cross continents. I live in dirty scuzzy London and The Bill is one programme I try to avoid!

It must be hard to take for the Geelong players at the moment.
