Finally a good 10km …

By ajh

Alyssa and I headed out for another attempt at a solid 10km run this morning at 7:30am. We decided to do our 6km loop, and then add a 4km loop if we felt good. Well, we did (feel good after the 6km, that is), and completed a solid, non-stop (no walk breaks, or stretch breaks) 10km run. It wasn’t fast, the average pace being 5:44 min/km, but it was great to see the confidence boost it gave Alyssa. Great to see her burst through her front door when we got back to her place and exclaim to her mum, “I did 10km, non-stop!”.

After breakfast there was a completely unsuccessful shopping trip to DFO looking for a pair of shoes. I was looking for a pair of casual shoes. Something dressier than runners, but not work or formal. I think I tried on something at most of the shoes stores in DFO, but nothing felt right or looked good. The few pairs of shoes I did see that I liked weren’t there in my size – which seems to be a frequent problem at DFO for me (for clothes as well). One of the main problems was that none of the shoes felt as comfortable as the runners I generally live in! I did end up buying a pair at Airport West on the way home from DFO though – should have gone there in the first place.

After some lunch we did a little bit of gardening (emphasis on little bit), then took the dog for a walk at Greenvale Reservoir.

I filled in for a friends sand volleyball team tonight. We were fixtured to play Kate’s team, but the fixture got changed and we ended up playing another team that has some of Kate’s work buddys in it. We got hosed by the way.

After tea I did a short home workout, concentrating on core stuff.

Sounds like it was a good 10km. When’s the big race? I’m sure Alyssa will do well.

If Alyssa still has stitch problems: I read somewhere that running more upright should help with those.

Congratulations to Alyssa (and you – mojo drifting back yet?) that first non-stop 10km is such a buzz!

I LIVE in my gym shoes (runners? I need to start using that) just because they’re so comfy and it saves having to carry an extra pair of shoes with me every day. I’m notorious round the office for wearing a smart outfit with great big training shoes on my feet completely ruining the sophistication!
