Up and at ‘em …

By ajh

I’m happy to report that I managed to drag my sorry arse out of bed this morning at 6am to make it to work in time to join Steve and Deb for a run. We did a nice leisurely 6km @ 5:25 min/km. It was really great to have some company on a run for a change. The knee held up really well during the run, but stiffened up a bit during the day – I have committed to myself that I will go have it looked at – soon, I promise. The showers at work are so bad, they have low-flow heads that make it seem almost impossible to wash the soap of you and the shampoo out of your hair. I’m sure that because of the low-flow you stay in there twice as long.

A reasonable day at work – very quiet because most of the workforce seemed to have taken the day off to make a really long weekend out of tomorrow’s Melbourne Cup Day holiday.

Just to keep you occupied – I know most of you have so much time to kill – try and work out what is unusual about the following paragraph. Answer in tomorrow’s post.

“This is an unusual month — Santa, snow and so on. But this is an unusual paragraph too. How quickly can you find out what is so uncommon about it? It looks so ordinary that you may think nothing is odd about it, until you actually match it against most paragraphs this long. If you put your mind to it and study it hard, you will find out — but nobody may assist you — do it without any coaching. Go to work and try your skill at figuring it out. Par on it is about half an hour. Good luck — and don’t blow your cool.”

So where’s your “I dragged my sorry arse out on Cup Day” blog? Or am I too early.

I can’t see the word “the” in your paragraph. Typing that made me look more closely. I can’t see the letter “e” in your paragraph either. Didn’t take me half an hour! I must think faster than I run. :-)

One of my favourite quotes: “Low flow, I don’t like the sound of that!”

No “e”s??? Didn’t take half an hour, does that mean I’m clever??

  6. Louise Says:

no Audrey, it just means you’ve seen something similar before, like me. :-)

(but there’s an “e” in “Wikipedia”, so it’s not really bereft of “e”s after all)

  7. Dream Says:

Yep, no e’s, but all the other vowels are present. I found a copy of this paragraph from many years ago, and I think the answer is that there is no e anywhere in the paragraph (I didn’t have the answer written down). The actual title to this paragraph is “About December”. Of course IT has an e in it and it is not counted for being in the paragraph, but nowhere in the paragraph will you find an e.
