Happy New Year

By ajh

Well, New Year’s Eve, as usual, was a quiet night at home for us. We usually do this to look after the dog who tends to get a little freaked by the inevitable fire-crackers that go off around our place every year. Sure enough, they were going from about 9pm through to about 1am.

New Year’s Eve always leaves me with mixed feelings of the year just gone, and the year to come. 2008 for me was a great year on the fitness front and of course I have a wonderful family (and dog) who I love. The biggest downer for me this year has been work. It has definitely been the most difficult and challenging year of my nearly 30 year career, and one that I have not really enjoyed that much. 2009 for me I think is going to be more of the same, or worse. In the current business environment it is going to be challenging times for everyone. So, I’m thinking it will continue to be a stressful, challenging year ahead.

I have posted my exercise goals for 2009, which are modelled very much on this years, with not a lot of significant extra challenge. Whilst I feel that this is a bit of a cop-out, it is intentional as I’m allowing for what is going to be a very busy year work-wise where I think I will need my exercise, and need to be just enjoying it to relieve the stress of work.

Today’s exercise was a 26.5 km ride on the bike, managing to time it just perfectly, arriving home just as the rain started. Other than that a quiet day pottering around home.

Happy New Year everyone!

Enjoying your exercise sounds like a great goal :) We get enough stress in life without making exercise another one. Happy new year.

    happy new year!

for some reason, andrew, it makes me sad that you are struggling and NOT LOVING the workstuff (can you tell I was once a career counselor?).

may 2009 be the year it all falls into place…

Good luck with your goals for 2009. Thanks also for your comment on my blog about knee problems. I had started to respond to your comment with a few details about my search for an answer to knee problems, but as usual a few details became a long epistle so in the end I posted it at the end of my blog entry for New Years day.

They look like good goals for 2009-just checked them out
and it makes sense to have achievable goals and putting them in context with what else is on yuor plate

Sensible achievable goals sound good to me. Why stress yourself out with difficult ones?

I hope 2009 brings nothing but happiness.

Happy new year Andrew. I really recommend the pilates classes. You may find it a bit tedious at first but if you stick with it you will really enjoy it. Go to a proper pilates studio and try some reformer classes – they are a good (albeit expensive) way to start. Then do some mat classes. They are also good general strength training classes.
You sound like a very happy chappy :)
