Well, if England can do as well in the Ashes series as Brit Mark Cavendish is doing in the Tour de France sprints, I’ll be one happy little pommy bastard! Shame about Brett Lee 
Seriously though, what an interesting nights racing in the Tour. Superb effort by Aussie rider Mark Renshaw who is Cavendish’s lead-out man and who has delivered the British sprinter into an ideal position for two wins out of two in the sprinter friendly stages 2 & 3. Cavendish has described Renshaw as “the best in the business”. The whole Columbia High Road team were superb last night as they took advantage of some tricky wind and road conditions to force a big split in the field, managing to get the leading group of 29 riders (including most of the Columbia team) a 41 second gain on the rest of the field. Aussie Michael Rogers, of Columbia, described it as the best team effort he’s ever seen.
Lance Armstrong was also canny enough to make sure he was in that leading group and has moved up to third place overall, only 40 seconds behind leader Fabian Cancellara – will he be in yellow soon? Cadel Evans, like a lot of the other lead riders was stuck in the second group and lost time.
Tonights Team Time Trial is going to be important, expect Astana, Saxobank and Columbia to be strong again. I fear that Cadel’s weaker Silence Lotto team may lose a little more time tonight.
While we’re talking about cycling, a mere 15km for me tonight before darkness set in – I’m yearning for daylight saving.
