Coding …

A late meeting last night (finished just after midnight), and an early start this morning (rostered on to Help Desk from 7:30am – bloody Global Financial Crisis), so feeling a little tired tonight. Help Desk wasn’t too bad, in fact I am quite enjoying my stints on the desk, it is good to get that direct customer contact, and amazingly I’m finding I can still occassionally actually help, despite many years of “management” really taking the gloss off the technical skills. I did then spent a good deal of the afternoon doing some data analysis with Excel, which also included writing a few Visual Basic macros to crunch through some of the raw data. I forget how much I enjoy doing this stuff – it’s amazing how getting some simple macro coding to work can be so satisfying. So, not too bad a day at work.

Arrived home tonight all ready to head out for a run only to find I was needed to be a taxi driver over to Highpoint. By the time I got back it was after 7pm, dark, cold and raining a bit, so no run tonight.

Bottle of red beckons ….

ah, you wimp! 7pm, cold and dark, is the *best* time to run – and if you hook up with my Street-O crowd, it always stops raining between 7 and 8pm. πŸ™‚

the bottle of red comes when called at the BBQ afterwards.

I get to play with VBA on occaision – agree its a good mental stimulation.

Weather here isn’t dark but it is raining a bit. Running in the rain isn’t too bad its getting started thats the trouble.

Well done, if my management even thought about making me take customer calls again I’d call in sick permanently until they backed down, I HATED being on the phones, worst 18 months of my life, Bank customers can be very mean 😦

I’d love to know how to use excel! It looks so useful!! I’ve just finished a chardonnay, but the weather is hinting that a nice warm red is in order.

I love excel too! But I also enjoy getting back to the coalface and doing the general duties stuff dealing with the public again- the old bread and butter stuff is sometimes a bit more interesting!
