vTdF – Stage 3 – Completed

Virtual Tour de France – Stage 3 – Wanze to Arenberg Porte du Hainaut – 213.0km

The Course: Cobblestones were the main feature of this stage. Seven sections of cobblestoned roads covering about 14km were sure to test out the peleton (riders and bicycles both).

The Race: Team Saxobank attacked on this stage, trying to get time on Alberto Contador, they were successful in this picking up 1:40 on Contador. However, the loss of Frank Schleck, out of the race after a crash, was a big price to pay. The eventual stage winner was Thor “God of Thunder” Hushovd, but Cancellara’s effort was enough to see him win back the yellow jersey. Cadel Evans also raced well, moving up into the top 10.

vTdF Status: 646.4km completed, target completion date for this stage was February 6th, so 7 days ahead of schedule.
