vTdF – Stage 7 – Completed

Virtual Tour de France – Stage 7 – Tournus to Station Des Rousses – 165.5km

This year one of my bike goals is to complete a “virtual Tour de France”. That is, to complete the same number of kilometres as the 2010 TdF riders did (3,641.9km) before the 2011 TdF completes on the 25th of July. These posts track my progress as I “complete each stage”.

The Course: The first stage for the climbers sees us in the Jura, in the south-east of France. Narrow, densely forested roads with a fairly flat first 44km, then all up and down with 6 climbs, including three Cat2 climbs at the end of the stage.

The Race: A good day out for team Quickstep, with Jerome Pineau heading out early and picking up a bucketload of King of the Mountain points, and then handing over to Sylvain Chavanel for his second win of this tour. Chavanel picked up enough time to also win himself the yellow jersey.

vTdF Status: 1,380.4km completed, target completion date for this stage was March 19th, so 6 days ahead of schedule.
