vTdF – Stage 9 – Completed

Virtual Tour de France – Stage 9 – Morzine-Avoriaz to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne– 204.5km

This year one of my bike goals is to complete a “virtual Tour de France”. That is, to complete the same number of kilometres as the 2010 TdF riders did (3,641.9km) before the 2011 TdF completes on the 25th of July. These posts track my progress as I “complete each stage”.

The Course: This looks like one of the hardest climbing stages of the tour, with two category one climbs, Col de la Colombiere (16.5km @ 6.7%) and Col des Saises (14.4km @ 5.1%) and the massive HC climb of the Col del la Madeleine (25.5km @ 6.2%). A fast 18km descent followed by 13km of flat roads get you to the finish once you battle over Madeleine.

The Race: A gallant BMC squad battled hard to defend Cadel’s yellow jersey, and managed to lead the peleton over the first three of the four major climbs, but after that Cadel didn’t have anything left and faded. Meanwhile, Sandy Casar put in a blistering sprint at the end and won the stage after being in the breakaway of eleven riders.

vTdF Status: 1,773.9km completed, target completion date for this stage was April 10th, so 11 days ahead of schedule.

But you didn’t finish today did you?

Yeah, I did. I headed out for a short ride when I got home. I only had 14km to finish the stage. This post was pre-written in draft, so easy to post, haven’t got around to writing tonight’s post yet.

OK, I thought you’d actually finished it with your 20km ride three days ago.

And jury duty? how did that go?

    Goodness, Andrew, congratulations AGAIN!

I am so far behind you now it’s gonna take some major resolve to catch you and (HA!) overtake you again. Keep going, you’re a good motivator – and I will be back on the bike by the end of next week, I know, and making up for lost time. Been missing it…

Thanks for your kind words over at The Porch.
