vTdF – Stage 13 – Completed

Virtual Tour de France – Stage 13 – Rodez to Ravel – 196.0km

This year one of my bike goals is to complete a “virtual Tour de France”. That is, to complete the same number of kilometres as the 2010 TdF riders did (3,641.9km) before the 2011 TdF completes on the 25th of July. These posts track my progress as I “complete each stage”.

The Course: This is one of the most beautiful stages of this years tour passing through the deep gorges and hilltop villages that were where famous French artist Toulouse Lautrec was raised. Whilst the hills in this stage are not too bad, the riders will be thinking about the beckoning Pyrenees that are just around the corner.

The Race: After such a gallant effort in Stage 12, Astana rider Alexander Vinokourov attacked again on the climb just before Ravel, taking Alessandro Ballan and Nicolas Roche with him. Mark Cavendish lead home the bunch but he was 13 seconds behind the victorious “Vino”.

vTdF Status: 2,543.9km completed, target completion date for this stage was May 24th, so 25 days behind schedule (it was 29 at the end of the previous stage). Now I need just over 30km per day to get this done on time.
