vTdF – Stage 18 – Completed

Virtual Tour de France – Stage 18 – Salies-de-Bearn to Bordeaux- 198.0km

This year one of my bike goals is to complete a “virtual Tour de France”. That is, to complete the same number of kilometres as the 2010 TdF riders did (3,641.9km) before the 2011 TdF completes on the 25th of July. These posts track my progress as I “complete each stage”.

The Course: The sprinters will all be glad to be finished with the mountains on this flat stage through the pine forests to Bordeaux.

The Race: Cav again, say no more. Check out the cheek of the Manx missile as he crosses the line looking back to see who is following!

vTdF Status: 3,487.4km completed, target completion date for this stage was July 16th, so 4 days behind schedule (it was 6 at the end of the previous stage). 38.5 kilometres a day, for the next four days to get it done now, the average has gone up a bit because of the two days with no riding (having to drive the boss around while he was in town).

Knee is feeling much better.

I had to be at work early this morning so headed out to ride to work in the dark. When I lifted the road bike off the wall rack I noticed the damn front tyre was flat. So, back inside, a change of shoes, switch over the rear light and rode the mountain bike to work for the first time. I’ve just fixed the tyre but couldn’t find anything in the tyre that might have caused the puncture, which always makes me nervous. Hopefully it will still be hard in the morning!

Glad to here your knee is getting better!

Is there something better than a race distance that ends in Bordeaux? So you can settle down after all the effort and enjoy a good bottle of red wine. 😀

I think you might favor a Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz more, though … 😉
