vTdF – Stage 19 – Completed

Virtual Tour de France – Stage 19 – Bordeaux to Pauillac, Individual Time Trial – 52.0km

This year one of my bike goals is to complete a “virtual Tour de France”. That is, to complete the same number of kilometres as the 2010 TdF riders did (3,641.9km) before the 2011 TdF completes on the 25th of July. These posts track my progress as I “complete each stage”.

The Course: This fairly flat, but undulating 52km time trial could decide the tour.

The Race: Andy Schleck started the time trial 8 seconds behind Contador, but unfortunately lost further time here, the Spaniard taking the tour, but not the stage. Tony Martin and Swiss champion Fabian Cancellara the only two riders to top the 50 km/hr average speed, with Cancellara winning another time trial. Sad that this is the last time we’ll see Lance in the TdF.

vTdF Status: 3,539.4km completed, target completion date for this stage was July 19th, so 3 days behind schedule (it was 4 at the end of the previous stage). 40 kilometres a day to get it done now.

Knee coming good I think.

Today was a day off work, and was a day of two rides. One mid morning, and another in the afternoon to try out my new glasses which I picked up today.

Most of you will recognise these little wonders as nylon cable ties. If you are a cyclist like me, you’ll no doubt have regular use for the little tackers. Well, I think I now have a lifetime supply. Pack of 500 (various sizes) in the Aldi catalog this week for $5. Bargain!

What do you use the cable ties for? They are great for securing suspects I know that!
    Go Cadel! He was amazing.

Usually for securing cables to the frame of the bike, but they are great for securing anything to anything around the garage. And of course, for tidying up cables around the computer desk.
