Some more sunrise shots …

Up and at them early again this morning, and I’m glad I did because mid-morning the weather turned horrible. Today the early morning really was the best part of the day.

I had decided to head over to the far corner of Woodlands this morning, to the little copse that is right on the corner of Oaklands Road and Sunbury Road. This is directly opposite the Melbourne Airport viewing car park. This small package of land used to be the home of St Mary’s Church, which was built in 1858. Due to the expansion of Melbourne Airport in 1973, the church was moved, stone by stone, to Bulla township where it still is today. The small parcel of land has conservation significance because it was fenced off and ungrazed, therefore some native plant species which have disappeared from the surrounding area have survived here.

Anyway, when I arrived it was to some very heavy cloud cover so I thought I was not going to get any decent pictures, but when the sun started to rise the cloud had thinned a little and there some lovely red bands in the sky, captured in the first two shots below. Then after about half an hour later with the sun brighter and higher, the cloud had darkened but dispersed a little for a very different, but equally impressive sky.

I particularly like the first and third photos below, what about you?

I love them all especially number two, with the fallen tree in the foreground. Looks like they could all be lovely paintings!
